I write murder mysteries, but they are essentially camouflaged character studies. I am fascinated by the intricacies and unexpected behaviors of us, humans. Especially when faced with an event that may change everything they think about themselves and the world.

One of my characters in The Birthmark Murders is the young Mikael Alardice whose arrival to Cotswolds puts the whole story in motion. Mikael is a mixture of Finnish and Māori genes raised in New Zealand. He is one of those people who don’t belong anywhere and wants to find his true roots, and identity and become himself.

You might think that Mikael is a somewhat tormented soul after he got the news about his father. The book follows his search for truth but reveals much deeper scars in people on its pages.
